On January 9, 2026, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office was dispatched on a report of a burglary and theft from a fish house located on Martin Lake in Anoka County. S. S. H., "Victim" herein, stated that he had been woken up by the sounds of snowmobiles around 3:30 that morning. Later that day, when he went out to his fish house, he discovered numerous items missing. Victim also observed fresh snowmobile tracks leading from his fish house to a residence located on the 6600 block of 230th Ave NE. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had last been at his fish house on January 8, 2026, that the missing items were present at that time and that he did not lock the fish house.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] included a propane tank, a heater, and other assorted fishing equipment. Law enforcement went to the fish house and observed the snowmobile tracks. Victim showed officers 3 new holes in the ice that he said were not present on January 8th. Next to the holes were a candy bar wrapper and two cigarette butts with filters which were taken into evidence by law enforcement. Law enforcement followed the snowmobile tracks to the suspect residence and knocked on the door but received no response.
Law enforcement returned the following day and spoke with J. V. Who was standing in the driveway. Another male, later identified as ANDREW PHILLIP VANDERPAS [DOB REDACTED], "Defendant" herein, came out of the residence, observed the officers, and then went back into the home. J. V. Identified him as his son and stated that he smoked hand rolled cigarettes with filters and confirmed that Defendant had been taking the snowmobile out to Lake Martin to fish. Victim and his girlfriend A.M. W. Advised that J. D. J., an individual who lives across the lake, had surveillance video of the snowmobiles going to the fish house on the morning of January 9th.
Law enforcement viewed the video which showed a snowmobile coming and going from the area of Victim's fish house. At one point the snowmobile is seen stopping near the fish house and then going towards West Martin Lake and 230th Ave NE. Law enforcement received a search warrant to search the suspect residence and executed the warrant on January 15th, 2026. They spoke with Defendant who was cooperative and said he would return the fishing equipment. He retrieved several items and gave them to law enforcement.
In a post-Miranda statement, Defendant admitted to entering the fish house and taking the items, which were valued at approximately $1,060. Defendant is in custody.
