M. Officer Boe was dispatched to an address on 15th Ave SE, St. Cloud, Sherburne County, MN for a 911 open line. Dispatch advised that there was female on the line saying “help me” with yelling in the background. Officer Boe arrived on scene and immediately heard yelling coming from inside the residence. As Officer Boe approached the front door, he heard a female voice say “stop hitting me.” Law enforcement immediately began knocking and announced their presence and a male individual, later identified as JONATHAN JERMAINE WHITFIELD, [DOB REDACTED] [hereinafter defendant] open the door.
Additionally, a female individual, identified as D. M. H, came out from behind the defendant, visibly upset and crying and asking for help. Officer Boe also noted that the defendant kept stating, “get her out of here, she’s drunk.” Officer Pikula then escorted D. M. H outside, where D. M. H kept stating “he beat her ass, he beat her ass.” Officer Boe began speaking with the defendant about the situation and the defendant stated nothing had happened and was unclear why law enforcement was at his residence.
Officer Boe informed the defendant that they had received a 911 call where an individual was asking for help to which the defendant stated he doesn’t know who called and that he did not know D. M. H personally, as they had met earlier at the bar. While speaking with the defendant Officer Boe also observed another female, identified as D. S. W walking around the apartment upset and crying. The defendant confirmed that D. S. W. Was his girlfriend. Law enforcement attempted to speak with D. S. W who reported nothing happened and everyone was ok.
Officer Boe requested D. S. W step outside of the apartment without the defendant present, to which D. S. W. Stated she would not leave the entry way. Officer Boe observed fresh scratches and cuts on D. S. W.’s legs, arms, and neck. When D. S. W. Was asked about the injuries she became extremely upset and crying and reported that she fell down and that the defendant has never hit her. D. S. W. Then refused to provide any more details, stated “im fine, he did not touch me” and retreated into the apartment.
Officer Boe left the apartment and proceeded to stand outside the residence while Officer Hainlin was speaking with D. M. H. Officer Hainlin noted that while speaking with D. M. H, he observed signs of intoxication. D. M. H reported that the defendant and D. S. W got into a verbal altercation and the defendant punched D. S. W in the face. D. M. H stated that her and D. S. W attempted to call 911, which made the defendant angry and the defendant then put his hands around D. S. W’s neck preventing her from calling for help or speaking with police.
D. M. H stated that she did not know the defendant and had met him at a bar earlier in the evening. Law enforcement then cleared the scene. At approximately 5:31 A.M. Officer Boe received a call from D. S. W requesting law enforcement meet her at her home. At approximately 5:51 A.M. Officer Boe made contact with D. S. W at her residence who was visibly upset and crying. D. S. W had several bags with her and stated to law enforcement that she was going to move in with the defendant but “not now.” D. S. W asked law enforcement several times “what would happen if she told what happened to her.” D. S. W. Stated she was scared to say anything because of the defendant and that she felt unsafe.
