On March 5, 2026, at approximately 7:30 P.M., officers of the Minneapolis Police Department observed MAHDI OMAR MOHAMED [DOB REDACTED], DEFENDANT herein, in the driver seat of a 2013, silver Toyota Camry (MN LIC# LNB916) parked curbside at [ADDRESS REDACTED], City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, MN. Officers initially drove by DEFENDANT when they observed him acting erratically. Officer circled back and parked behind the vehicle. While running the tag, officers learned that WITNESS [NAME REDACTED] had recently placed a 911 call reporting the same vehicle for suspicion of DWI. WITNESS [NAME REDACTED] approached officers on scene and relayed that he believed DEFENDANT was operating the vehicle while impaired.
Officers observed DEFENDANT exit the driver’s side of the vehicle and enter a nearby business. Officers contacted DEFENDANT inside the public space and immediately noticed that he presented with signs of narcotics related impairment. Specifically, officers observed DEFENDANT’s conduct to be restless, rapid with exaggerated movement of the hands and body, inability to focus or pay attention, inability to keep his body still, tremors, and constrained pupils. DEFENDANT consented to performing standardized field sobriety tests (SFST) that initially revealed indicators of impairment; however, DEFENDANT declined to complete further SFSTs. DEFENDANT was placed under arrest and officers recovered the keys to the vehicle from the jacket pocket of his person.
Officers also obtained a search warrant for DEFENDANT’s blood. BCA analysis of that DEFENDANT’s blood tested positive for FENTANYL, a Schedule II Controlled Substance. Officers also learned that DEFENDANT’s is the subject of approximately 8 open DWI-related matters. Accordingly, officers performed an inventory search of DEFENDANT’s vehicle in pursuant to the department’s vehicle forfeiture procedures and discovered various narcotics paraphernalia to include a piece of burned tin foil under the driver’s seat consistent with consumed narcotics.
Officers also located a second piece of foil in the center console that contained several small crystals suspected to be fentanyl. DEFENDANT has 5 qualified prior impaired driving incidents resulting in license revocations in the previous 10 years: (1) Revocation-Pursuant to Search Warrant (DWI-Related), 4/15/2025; (2) Revocation- Pursuant to Search Warrant (DWI-Related), 4/23/2025; (3) Revocation-Pursuant to Search Warrant (DWI- Related), 6/6/2025; (4) Revocation-Pursuant to Search Warrant (DWI-related), 7/14/2025; and (5) Revocation-Pursuant to Search Warrant (DWI-Related), 1/10/2026. DEFENDANT also has the following DWI related cases presently open since 2025: (1) 4th Degree DWI, Controlled Substance, 70-CR-25-6120; (2) 4th Degree DWI-Controlled Substance, 70-CR-25-6512; (3) 4th Degree DWI, 19WS-CR-25-6130; (4) 4th Degree DWI, 19WS-CR-25-6134; (5) 4th Degree DWI- Controlled Substance, 19WS-CR-25-7579; (6) 4th Degree DWI-Controlled Substance, 19WS-CR-25- 8132; (7) 4th Degree DWI, 19WS-CR-26-2300; and (8) 1st Degree Felony DWI-Controlled Substance, 19HA-CR-26-446. DEFENDANT is not presently in custody.
