On October 4, 2025, officers with the University of Minnesota Police Department observed a group of individuals in a parking lot off of 6th Street South and Cedar Avenue South in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. This is a high-crime area involving drug use and distribution. The group were standing close to each other while moving items back and forth in a hand-to-hand fashion. Officers approached the group on foot and observed two people using a vehicle as a table to eat food. On the ground, around by the feet of the two people, officers observed drug paraphernalia.
As officers approached, they observed a knife holster on one of the people. Officers told this person to put his hands on the vehicle; the person complied. While doing so, officers observed a knife in the person’s hands. This person was later identified as Mohamed Hassen Jama [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant”). Officers found that Defendant had active warrants for his arrest. Officers searched Defendant’s person and found a clear plastic container. Inside of the plastic container was a white crystalline substance (“the Crystalline Substance”). The Crystalline Substance was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (“BCA”) for analysis.
On February 10, 2026, the BCA found that the Crystalline Substance contained Methamphetamine (“Meth”) and weighed 0.517-grams. Defendant was brought to a squad vehicle and transported to the Hennepin County Jail. Officers found, on the floor where Defendant had been seated, a plastic baggie. Inside of the plastic baggie was a white powdery substance (“the Powdery Substance”). The Powdery Substance was not field tested but weighed 1.81-grams. Defendant is presently incarcerated with the Minnesota Department of Corrections, therefore, a warrant is requested to ensure Defendant’s appearance in court proceedings.
