On November 29, 2025, officers with the Richfield Police Department were on routine patrol in the area of Portland Ave S and 77th St. E., Richfield, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The officer saw the person on the bicycle, who was later identified as CHRISTOPHER WAYNE HAAKENSTAD, [DOB REDACTED], “Defendant” herein. The officer saw the Defendant crossing the roadway northbound in the crosswalk, however Eastbound traffic had a green light, and the Defendant was crossing in defiance of the traffic control signals.
His conduct almost caused a collision with a driver who had the right of way. The officer stopped the Defendant who identified himself by name. While running routine checks the officer learned there was an active felony arrest warrant for the Defendant. Defendant started to ride away, and the officer stopped him. Defendant was not cooperative with the arresting officer. Defendant then claimed he had ingested fentanyl and he was taken to the hospital. While at the hospital Defendant attempted to elope.
During a search incident to arrest officers located suspected narcotics on Defendant’s person. The suspected narcotics were examined at the police department. A bag of suspected narcotics field tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 3.17 grams without packaging. Inside a Ziplock bag, officers located hundreds of pills as follows: - 10.02 grams (approximately 100 pills) labeled M10 (Lisdexamfetamine) – Schedule II - 21.11 grams (approximately 105.5 pills) labeled W283 (Methylphenidate) – Schedule II - 4 grams (5 pills) labeled G40 (Lisdexamfetamine) – Schedule II Defendant is pending sentencing in ••-CR-••-••••. Due to his extensive criminal history he is a presumptive commit to prison.
Defendant is currently in custody on that unrelated matter and the State therefore requests a warrant to ensure his appearance.
