On February 19, 2026, law enforcement officers from Mille Lacs Tribal Police Department and Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance at a residence on Par Place in Garrison, Mille Lacs County. Dispatch aired that the suspect, Defendant IGNACIO JOSE REYNOLDS AGUILAR [DOB REDACTED] was agitated and shouting, would only speak with a Tribal Officer, and wanted a negotiator to contact him. Tribal PD Officer M. Vredenburg spoke with Defendant and was able to deescalate, advising him to exit his residence without any weapons at the time officers were arriving at the location.
Upon arrival, the first officers on scene observed Defendant looking out of a lower-level door. They detained him at that time, searched him for weapons, and placed him in a patrol vehicle. Defendant stated he was uninjured but was intoxicated by alcohol and gabapentin. Officers made contact with I. A. L., Defendant’s father, who was carrying a broken door out of the residence. He informed them that Defendant had broken the door. I. A. L. Stated that Defendant’s behavior had gotten out of hand and he had lost control.
He had gotten upset with his sister, and had broken a bedroom door. The incident had scared a young child (YOB 2024) who was present. I. A. L. Stated he thought Defendant had been drinking, and that he had been behaving erratically for the last couple of months. He stated Defendant might hurt one of the girls. Officers spoke with Defendant’s sisters, T. R. A. And A. R. A., both adults fully identified in police reports. T. R. A. Stated Defendant had been drinking and punching walls, and had said he was going to punch A. R. A. A. R. A. Reported that Defendant had been getting in her face, was close to her with his fists clenched, and threatened to punch her.
She thought he was going to punch her and was afraid of him. She responded by saying “go on and do it then,” and described herself as getting ready to be hit. She stated Defendant put his open hand near her face. She further stated Defendant said he had a gun, and would put the barrel on her forehead and shoot. She stated she believes Defendant does have guns, but did not know where they were. She reported Defendant has been violent with her in the past. Officers had knowledge from previous law enforcement contacts with Defendant that he was known to possess firearms.
I. A. L. Advised that a family member had taken custody of the firearms and had hidden them prior to this incident. Defendant was read a Miranda warning and indicated he was willing to speak with a Deputy. When asked about firearms, Defendant denied he had a gun at that location. When asked if he had threatened to punch his sister, he asked “How bad is that if that’s true?” The Deputy told him he was just looking for the truth. Defendant responded “well, you take people to jail for the truth.” He then said he had gotten drunk and told everyone to leave, and did not provide further details about what happened.
