On or about January 11, 2026, Minneapolis police responded to an alarm call going off in the area of [ADDRESS REDACTED] South, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Police arrived and observed a vehicle associated with the call to have Minnesota license plates BHA243 and the driver's door handle was busted off which is indicative of a car that was stolen. There was a male driver and a female passenger. The vehicle was a Kia Sportage vehicle. It is common to break off the driver's door handle of a Kia vehicle to gain entry into the vehicle and steal it.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle to investigate the alarm call and the vehicle by stopping vehicle with lights and sirens. As soon as police turned on their lights and sirens, the Kia Sportage fled. After some time, the same Kia was located parked in the middle of the alley behind the listed address of 2216 17th Avenue South in Minneapolis. Police pulled into the alley and as police drove down the driver quickly exited the Kia and fled on foot but was quickly arrested and identified as KENNETH RODGERS JR [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein.
Police were able to confirm the vehicle was a stolen vehicle and Defendant did not have permission to take or drive the vehicle or otherwise possess it. The incorrect license plates were on the vehicle. Defendant is currently in custody for this offense.
