On May 25, 2026, at approximately 2:44 A.M., Deputy LaCore of the Mower County Sheriff’s Office was on routine patrol traveling southbound on Highway 218 near the 295th Street intersection in the County of Mower, when he observed the headlights of a vehicle, later identified as a gray 2018 Porsche Macan (IN LIC/EE6993) traveling towards him. LaCore activated his front stationary radar and obtained a speed reading on the vehicle of 71 mph in a 60-mph zone. The vehicle then turned on its bright headlights before passing LaCore within 1000 feet of his squad producing a temporary glare to the deputy’s vision.
LaCore turned around and activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle. Deputy LaCore continued to follow the vehicle northbound on Highway 218 and the vehicle was slow to stop. LaCore activated his siren in an attempt to alert the driver, later identified as JOSEPH ROBERT CORBETT, DOB/081592, the defendant herein. The vehicle continued without stopping. LaCore then utilized his squad’s spotlight at the back window of the vehicle to attempt to catch the defendant’s attention. The vehicle still continued without stopping.
LaCore then observed the defendant waving his arm out of the window. The vehicle eventually signaled and pulled over on the right shoulder near the 330th Street intersection. Deputy LaCore approached the vehicle on the passenger side and observed the defendant with both hands on his phone. The defendant asked the deputy, “If he had a problem.” LaCore advised the defendant that he had been trying to pull him over. The defendant responded, “You got a f****** problem.” LaCore observed the passenger, later identified as the defendant’s husband, M. C. L, leaning back in his seat.
LaCore commanded the defendant to step out of the vehicle and he said, “no.” LaCore transitioned to the driver’s side of the vehicle and attempted to open the door. The defendant cracked his window down about an inch and asked, “if [the deputy] had a f****** problem.” Deputy LaCore informed the defendant that he needed his driver’s license and informed him he was speeding. The defendant stated that he was not speeding and stated, “I bet you 6 million dollars I was going 67 miles per hour.” LaCore advised the defendant that it was a 60-mph zone and informed the defendant that he needed to see the defendant's driver’s license.
The defendant responded, “F*** you.” LaCore notified dispatch that the defendant was being uncooperative. Deputy LaCore asked the defendant if there were any medical conditions he needed to be aware of and the defendant called him a terrorist and refused to provide any information. LaCore asked the question due to the license plate displaying the symbol for autism. Deputy LaCore informed the defendant that he committed a traffic violation and as a law enforcement officer of Minnesota, he was requesting the defendant's license.
