Suspect ID’d After Woman, 5-year-old Son Killed in Anoka County

A woman and her 5-year-old son were killed in a shooting at an Anoka County home and the suspect has now been identified.

The woman's estranged partner is in custody at the Anoka County Jail.

Authorities identified the victims as Jennifer Sue Marsaw, 44, and her son Marzai Andrew Dawson, 5, both of Lexington.

Irving Van Marsaw, 53, of Minneapolis — Jennifer Marsaw's estranged partner — has been booked into the Anoka County Jail pending formal charges after being released from the hospital.

Authorities responded to the 9300 block of Ryan Place around 12:50 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a shooting at a residence.

Officers arrived and found Jennifer Marsaw dead inside the home. They also found Marzai gravely injured. Paramedics transported the boy to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Law enforcement deployed a K-9 to search the area surrounding the home. Officers found and apprehended Irving Marsaw nearby. The K-9 assisted in taking him into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released to the Anoka County Jail.

Investigators said the incident does not appear to be random and there is no known threat to the public.

The Centennial Lakes Police Department, Midwest Medical Examiner's Office, Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office, Midwest Regional Forensic Laboratory, and Anoka County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
