On September 13, 2025 at approximately 4:33 P.M., Austin Police Department officers Damien Schroeder and Jeffrey Marx were dispatched to a residence in the 2300 block of 16th Avenue SW In the City of Austin, Mower County on a report of a burglary in progress. The reporting party, Witness 1 (an adult male), advised that an unknown white male dressed In shorts and no shirt rode up to the residence on a white bike, lifted the door of the attached garage, slid underneath, and then left on the bike, heading east on 16th Avenue SW, As Officer Schroeder arrived In the area of the call, he observed a person he knows to be JACE CALLI ANDERSON, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the defendant, riding a white bike in the 2000 block of 16th Avenue SW; the bike appeared to have a basket on the front covered with a blanket.
Officer Schroeder turned around, activated his emergency lights and siren, and stopped the defendant in the 1700 block of 18th Street SW. As Officer Schroeder exited his squad car, the defendant abruptly dropped his bike along with the basket and blanket in the grass. Officer Schroeder advised the defendant that he was being detained, placed handcuffs on him, and had him sit on the bumper of his squad car. Officer Marx arrived on scene and advised Officer Schroeder that he would attempt to contact the homeowner, Victim A (an adult male). Officer Schroeder placed the defendant in the back of his squad car, and while doing so, the defendant stated he knows Victim A, that Victim A lets him go over to his house all the time, and that Victim A is an old man.
Officer Schroeder transported the defendant to the residence, and while Officer Marx attempted contact with Victim A, Officer Schroeder read the defendant the Miranda warning. The defendant stated he understoad his rights and would speak with Officer Schroeder. The defendant told Officer Schroeder that he went to Victim A's residence to get some tools. The defendant stated he knocked an Victim A's door, he did not answer, but saw that the garage door was open. He then went Into the garage and grabbed a variety of tools including wrenches, pipe wrenches, and an electric saw.
The defendant stated he was in the garage for approximately 10 minutes, and he placed the tools in a milk crate and covered the crate with a blanket. Officer Schroeder asked the defendant why he covered the milk crate with a blanket, and the defendant said he didn't know why. The defendant stated. Victim A gave him permission to be at the residence and Victim A will confirm that. Officer Schroeder then spoke with the reporting party, Witness 1, who said he was across the street at his home when he observed the defendant ride his bike to the front of the garage, place the bike on the ground, and open the garage door approximately 2 feet; he then crawled underneath the garage door, Witness 1 said the defendant was in the garage for approximately 10 minutes when he saw the defendant leave the garage with a crate covered in a blanket.
