On August 8, 2025, at approximately 9:13 P.M., officers of the Austin Police Department responded to the Wal-Mart located at 1000 18t® Avenue NW in the City of Austin, County of Mower, for a report of a theft. The reporting party advised that a female had stolen a laptop and was running out of the store. The party provided a description of the female and the vehicle she fled from the scene in, a white Jeep (TX license VSB5760). The Jeep was last seen traveling westbound on 1gth Avenue and was determined to be a rental vehicle.
Officer Sovers arrived at Wal-Mart and contacted employees, A. H. (an adult female) and Y. T. M. (an adult female). A. H. Stated that she was previously advised of a theft from the Albert Lea Wal-Mart earlier that day where a female suspect had committed a "Cash Cash Scam" and stole $4,000 worth of merchandise. A. H. Advised that the "Cash Cash Scam" occurs when a suspect will contact an employee and have them run a transaction by using cash and make it so the suspect does not have to pay while getting a receipt for the items.
During the scam, the suspect will tell the employee that they work at a different Wal-Mart. A. H. Stated that on that evening, she observed the suspect from the Albert Lea theft, later identified as BRITTANY ROSHAUN JACOBS-ADDISON, DOB/032789, the defendant herein, walk into the Austin store and head to the electronics section where she was found finishing up the "Cash Cash Scam" transaction for two ROG G18 R9 laptops (valued at $1,799.00 each). Y. T. M. Advised that when the defendant saw them, she told the cashier that she was going to use her Roblox card at the A. T. M. The defendant then took the laptops and ran towards the exit.
A. H. And Y. T. M. Followed the defendant as she passed all points of sale without paying for the two laptops. A. H. Stated the defendant then dropped one of the laptops and got into the Jeep and fled. A. H. Provided Officer Sovers with the security footage from the incident. Sovers observed the defendant to be wearing a blue New York shirt, jeans, and a grey hat. The defendant enters the store alone with a cart. The defendant then had the employee behind the electronics desk grab the two laptops.
The employee then scans one of the laptops while speaking with the defendant. The register drawer opens, and a receipt printed. The employee then closed the drawer and scanned the other laptop. The receipt was printed for the second laptop after the defendant pointed at the register, and the employee pressed buttons. The defendant then takes both laptops and runs past the final point of sales with the laptops in her left hand. Officer Keesey responded to the area and located the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of Aldi at 1700 17% Street NW. Keesey activated his emergency lights and contacted the driver, Lanavette Ray, and the passenger, the defendant.
