On August 6, 2025, at approximately 6:00 P.M., officers of the Minneapolis Police Department were utilizing Milestone cameras in the vicinity of 17th Ave. S. And Cedar Ave., S., City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, when officers observed multiple unknown people engaging in suspected narcotics activity to include one unknown male wearing a Chicago Bulls hat and jersey. Patrol officers responded to investigate and the described male, later identified as JORGE MAURICO CASTILLO [DOB REDACTED], DEFENDANT herein, attempted to flee the scene first by bicycle, then by foot.
Officers were able to detain DEFENDANT who voluntarily told officers he had a gun on his person. From DEFENDANT’s waistband, officers recovered a 9 mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistol with loaded magazine. A check of the firearm’s serial number (HMX7626) revealed it to be listed as stolen. Officers confirmed the weapon’s stolen status with the Faribault Police Department. DEFENDANT admitted that he knew the weapon in his possession was not lawfully obtained. DEFENDANT also admitted that he had been distributing fentanyl at the time officers first observed him on camera, but claimed he was freely sharing narcotics, not selling them.
DEFENDANT also stated he routinely uses fentanyl; however, no narcotics were found on DEFENDANT’s person. DEFENDANT is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to a felony EJJ adjudication for Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, 27-CR-11-20662 ([DOB REDACTED]). DEFENDANT is not presently in custody but is subject to an arrest warrant in 27-CR-25-9927 for failure to appear. The state requests that a Complaint Warrant issue due to the DEFENDANT’s active warrant status and that his whereabout are not presently known.
