On 3/28/2026, at about 2:15 pm, officers responded to an address in Moorhead, Clay County for a reported disturbance. The identified 911 caller advised that a male and female were at the bus stop, the female appeared intoxicated and in distress, and the male was pulling the female. The 911 caller described the involved parties’ physical appearances. On scene, Moorhead Officer Miller spoke to the male, ultimately identified as STEVEN GAVELL REDMOND [DOB REDACTED] (Defendant). The officer asked Defendant repeatedly for identification.
Defendant refused to identify himself or answer the officer’s questions. The officer told Defendant he was detained. Defendant walked away. The officer put his hand on Defendant’s arm; he tensed up and tried to pull away. He refused to cooperate and was escorted to the ground. Defendant continued to resist by tensing up and turning his arm under his body, preventing the officer from handcuffing him. Defendant was placed in the back of the officer’s squad car. Later, Defendant identified himself. Officer Eggert identified the female as B. C. (Victim) and observed a mark the size of a half-dollar on their left cheek below their eye.
The area was red, swelling, and starting to bruise. Victim [NAME REDACTED], Defendant had been mean, they had argued, and then he struck them inside their residence. Defendant had struck them and punched them in the face with a closed fist in the area noted by the officer. Victim ran outside after the assault. Officer Eggert observed Victim was not wearing shoes and appeared to have left without gathering any personal items. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had been in a romantic, intimate relationship for about five (5) years.
The officer photographed Victim’s injuries. Defendant was transported to Clay County jail. Defendant has been convicted of Violation of DANCO on 7/12/2017 in Washington Co. Files 82-CR-17- 2412 and 82-CR-17-2425. **This is a DVC matter.** PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn.
